Happy Chinese New Year! We're trying to do our part to make sure that Lexie is aware of some Chinese traditions. We'll be going to a Lunar New Year picnic next weekend. And we're trying to start our own little family traditions this year. We went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch. She ate rice for the first time.

We got her some books about Chinese New Year and I actually got one for her 1st New Year celebration, but it's packed away in one of our many boxes. So I'll bring it out for her 2nd new year.

We didn't have time to get her a traditional Chinese outfit when we were in Taiwan, so we got an Asian inspired dress for her to wear. We took pictures of her with a dragon puppet and hóng bāo (red envelope). We also gave her an orange which is supposed to bring her abundant happiness for the new year.

As Lexie gets older, we'll try and incorporate more traditions for this holiday. But for this year, we tried to keep it simple.

Lexie really liked that orange. She thought it was so funny to lick it.
Hi Michelle!
ReplyDeleteHappy Chinese New Year! I love the new photos of Lexie. She's such a beautiful baby and looks very happy. Where did you find the Chinese New Year books?? I've searched Okinawa, but couldn't find any.
Eric is so talented with the camera, and all the photos look wonderful. Best wishes to your family for a happy and healthy 2010!
