What a Difference a Year Makes

One year ago, you were 8 months old. Such a tiny baby, only 13 pounds and dressed in clothes that were several sizes too big for you. Look at you today! You are no longer that tiny baby. Yes, you still are a little thing, but growing steadily at your own pace.
One year ago, you could not crawl and was always trying to stand up. Now you're up and running. Walking was never part of your vocabulary. Why walk, when you can run, run, run!!
A year later, that smile of yours still melts our hearts. Only now, you definitely know how to turn that smile off and on. You also know how to pose for a picture and give goofy smiles when you say "cheese."
One year ago, we were just getting to know you. Now we know this rascally grin pretty well. You can be a little monster at times and will destroy everything in your path. Even the doggies know when to get out of your way because Hurricane Lexie is coming through!
One year ago, you hated taking baths. Now you run to the bathroom when you hear the water running. You love standing under the shower and enjoy throwing cups of water at mommy. Even after the tub is drained, you lie there hoping that more water will come out of that faucet so you can play.
A year later, your laughter is still the best sound we've ever heard. If we could bottle up your laughter, we'd be millionaires. It's just so pure and innocent and we could listen to it forever.
One year ago, we worried whether you would love Maxx and Gohan. Today, you are the bestest buddies. You fight, you play, and most of all, you love each other so much.
A year later, you are climbing everything. You try to climb a ladder even with daddy standing on it. You climb the tall chairs in our kitchen and when you get caught, you start dancing on them and giving your sweetest smile. You are dangerous, but it's so hard to stay mad at you!
One year ago, we were worried that you weren't eating enough. You were so small that you could never drink all of your formula without throwing up. Now, you are a chow hound. You eat almost everything that we give you. With your favorites being noodles, rice, mashed potatoes & gravy, and ice cream.
One year ago, I read to you after your bath each night. You are now so in love with books. You like to read books on your own or will give us a book to read together. Your favorite book is still "How Do I Love You" which was the first book I read to you.
You continue to make us proud each and every day. We love how well-behaved you are when we go out to eat. You are able to sit at the table for over an hour so we can enjoy a nice meal.
You have such a sweet personality. You always share your toys with others, but will stand up for yourself when you need to. We love how you are never grumpy when you wake up. You always are so happy to start each day, no matter how early it is.
We are constantly amazed by your fine motor skills and you've shocked your occupational therapist as well. You can stack more blocks than some adults. You are very observant and will watch what someone is doing and then try to do it all by yourself. And that means you don't want any help from no one!!
You are a perfectionist and can have a bit of a hissy fit when you can't figure things out by yourself. We're trying to teach you that it's okay if your blocks fall down or the rings don't fit.
One year ago, a miracle happened for us. We got to look into the eyes of our daughter.
A year later, those eyes look back at us with love.

  1. Lovin' your pumpkin pics from this fall. :) And I bought Miss Hannah the same Carters flowers and stripes outfit yesterday, putting back a larger size for next fall. Great taste! Haha!
