The Tale of Thumper Rabbit

Last summer Lexie went to her first dentist visit.  We told her if she was a big girl and did great, we would go to the Disney Store and she could pick out something.  She did awesome so we went to buy her a treat.  After looking at lots of toys and dolls, she finally decided on a rabbit.  We thought it was Thumper from Bambi, but later realized it's his girlfriend.  Anyways, we called him Thumper and the name stuck.

In the beginning, Thumper was just another toy.  He had a special place in her bed, but when we went out she was happy to take Wolfie, Elmo, or other dolls.  I don't know when it changed, but we could not leave the house without Thumper.  She also carries him around the house.  Lexie talks to Thumper and the way they interact, it's like he's a real bunny.  She always tells me, "I love Thumper." or "He's my best pal."

Lexie does not like to be apart from Thumper.  She has let me wash Thumper only a few times and will keep asking me if he's dry yet.  Once we forgot Thumper at Nana's house and had to explain to her that we would go back and get him.  She was so upset with Maxx because he was carrying Thumper around in his mouth.  Usually she laughs if he picks up one of her toys, but Thumper is off limits.

Because of this attachment, we decided that a back-up Thumper was in need.  We kept meaning to visit the Disney Store, but never had the chance.  We finally went last weekend and there was a rabbit there, but it didn't look at all like Thumper.  I gave it to Lexie and she said, "That's Thumper," then she put it back on the shelf.

What were we going to do now?  Eric, the king of Amazon, found Thumper online.  That's how we knew it wasn't Thumper, but his girlfriend.  Since this rabbit is no longer sold in stores, the prices are double of what we paid for it.  Well, you gotta do what you gotta do!!  So we bought one.

It was very fluffy when we received it and then we made the mistake of hiding old Thumper and giving her the new one.  Lexie grabbed it at first, then looked at it.  And this girl is smart.  She says to us, "Where's Thumper?  I have to let him meet his new friend."

We had to do the switcheroo again, so we told her that Thumper needed a bath.  We put both rabbits in the wash.  Thumper is a bit dirtier, but he did get fluffier after the wash.  I grabbed the old one accidentally and gave that to Lexie.  She inspected him and after a little hesitation, she decided that it was her Thumper.  Soon we're going to have to switch the rabbits again just so new Thumper gets some Lexie time to be loved and handled a bit.
