The Climb

We are packed and ready to go! Eric and I were talking at dinner about how it still doesn't seem real that we're going to Taiwan tomorrow. It has been such a long journey (over 8 years) of frustration and disappointment that we try not to get too excited because every time we got our hopes up, there's usually some obstacle that we have to overcome. Who knew that wanting to have a family would take this long or be this hard?

It began with 2 years of listening to our doctor tell us that it'll just take a little time and there was nothing to be worried about. Then another 3 years of being poked and prodded and always being told that if we did some type of procedure, we would get pregnant. Finally, we had to just take a year to reflect on whether we could be happy without children. When we finally decided on adopting, we didn't know it would be another 2 years before we would get our baby and we would still be waiting if we didn't get accepted in the Taiwan program.

We are relieved to finally be close to having our dream come true, but we aren't going to celebrate yet until Lexie is safe and sound here in Hawaii.

Have you heard the song, "The Climb?" Everytime I hear this song, it just reminds me of everything that we've been through. That sometimes it's not about the end result, but the journey of how you get there. The fact that it took us so long to have a family gave us time to build on our relationship and make sure that we were ready to be parents. We definitely won't take anything for granted and know that our life will only be better with Lexie. How funny that Miley Cyrus can explain the meaning of life!
