A Year Ago

Who knew one phone call would change our lives forever?

A year ago, Eric & I were almost 2 years into our China wait. We had filed our application for Taiwan 6 months earlier and were expecting at least a 2 year wait, when we got that call. I remember seeing Eric's text and my heart started beating faster and it just felt so surreal, like I was in a dream.

Seeing those first images of Lexie just made our hearts melt. I've read other family's blogs and they always talked about how much they loved their babies, but I really couldn't understand how you could fall in love with a picture. Until it happened to us!

We couldn't stop looking at her tiny face and we watched her video over and over again. That was the day our lives changed forever.

The wait was long to start our family, but it became excruciating now that we knew there was a tiny baby waiting for us in Taiwan. Our dream was finally going to be a reality and each day was filled with hope, disappointment, excitement, frustration, anxiety, happiness, and our love for this baby we didn't even know grew and grew.

It took 6 1/2 months for our case to get through the Taiwan court system. Each day we would check our email for any information or pictures of Lexie. We kind of just went through the motions of our everyday lives and even as we flew to Taiwan, it just didn't seem real. We kept expecting to wake up from this dream.

Seeing another fellow blogger with her son was like someone throwing cold water in our faces. It finally hit us, this was REAL, we were going to be parents.

Our lives are busy now and Lexie takes up much of our time, but we wouldn't change it one bit.


Lexie is the apple of her daddy's eye. She loves him so much! He is such a great dad!


Lexie has made our lives so much more fulfilling. She constantly amazes us and can't imagine what it would be like if we were still waiting for that call.

We're very fortunate that we don't have to wonder anymore.
