It's Been 3 Years

I just realized that it is our 3 year anniversary date for China. That means 3 years ago, our file was logged into the CCAA which is the government agency that handles all of the adoptions. When we put in our application, we were told that it would 18 months. Let's just say if we stayed in the program, we would be nowhere close to going to China for our baby. The families in China right now have been waiting for 4 years, so logically we're 1 year behind them and hanging in there for another year would be no problem. The thing is, adoptions in China don't exactly follow the calendar like normal people.

They send out referrals based on batches, so right now they are looking at families who are logged in between April 21-23, 2006. This group will probably get their referrals in June. Then the next group of days may get their referrals in July. If the group is huge, they might look at only one day at a time, so it may take them to the end of 2010 to just get through the families in April of 2006. Confused yet??

So, what should be next year for us, could take 3-5 years. And that is why after much debate over what's in the best interest for our family and our sanity, we decided to drop out of the program. Our answer came in the form of a 16 pound little munchkin. Whenever we looked into Lexie's eyes, we realized we have everything we could ever want and China could not make our lives any better.

We feel that we were given a wonderful opportunity to change to the Taiwan program. The stars and planets were finally aligned perfectly and that is why we were blessed with such an amazing little girl. We couldn't ask for anything more.

We feel we hit the jackpot with Lexie. Why jinx it? She has a bubbly personality.

Her smile can melt anyone's heart.

Lexie is a great baby and is very easygoing. She sleeps well which makes us very happy!

She constantly makes us laugh. She knows she's a ham!

Lexie has finally opened her heart to us and she has a big heart. Everyday she shows us just how much she loves us. We love her hugs and kisses.

We are a family now and to wait for a baby who has not been born yet or won't be born for another 5 years is kind of insane. We are happy now and we don't need to think about the "what ifs". Life is about what is happening now and Lexie is our life now. We love her and we're so thankful that she is our daughter.
