Today Lexie went to her Gymboree class. The focus was on sound. They had little obstacle courses with bells and stuffed animals that made noises and the babies were to explore and climb up steps or go through tunnels. Lexie wasn't into the climbing part today, but she did like going down the slide. They have the babies lie on a sheepskin to help them slide down easier. Lexie loved that and she just lay there and didn't want to get off.
They had this huge log that we tapped on to make loud and soft noises. Lexie really enjoyed pounding on the log. I did it with Lexie during bathtime, by tapping on her duckie tub and saying "loud, loud, soft, soft" and she was just cracking up and laughing really loud. Every so often, she started to tap on the tub.
That log was also used to help with walking. At first when Ms. Erica said the babies were going to push the log across the room, all of the parents kind of looked at her like she was crazy. But, they actually did it! Well, it was really only Lexie and this little boy doing the pushing because the other 2 babies just ended up sitting there. They got it across the room pretty quickly. What's good about it was that it allowed Lexie to walk on her own and she couldn't fall forward if she lost her balance because the log was always right in front of her.
Lexie had a lot of fun during music time. She got so excited when Ms. Erica brought out Jimbo the clown. And she was singing and dancing to "Twinkle, Twinkle" and "If You're Happy." Lexie was clapping and making all kinds of noises and funny faces that Ms. Erica commented that Lexie could be the next instructor since she knew all of the songs and motions.
Lexie's favorite part is always the parachute. She just enjoys looking at all of the colors and seeing the parachute go up and down. I'm really loving that we put her in this class. She's having a fun time and it also helps me to exercise a bit because it's very hands-on for the parents. During music time, I'm bouncing Lexie or swinging and carrying her. A 14 pound baby gets pretty heavy when you have to spin in a circle or lift them into the air.
