Today, we took Lexie to a Gymboree play class. She was the youngest and smallest one there. Almost all of the babies were walking and there was one boy who was 3 months older than Lexie who could crawl faster than the others could walk.

She was a little hesistant at first to explore on her own, but once she saw that she could climb and touch anything she wanted, she was crawling off on her own. She climbed up ramps and even stood up on it. We were amazed at how she knew how to shift her weight so that she leaned forward on the ramp and didn't fall backwards.
Lexie went through tunnels and climbed up stairs. She played with bubbles and all different types of balls. She had her first experience on a slide. She didn't really enjoy it at first and was scared to lean back.

The instructor really kept the little ones moving. They played a hide and seek game where they had to find the bees under the cones. Lexie didn't really care about looking for bees, she just wanted to crawl around. She enjoyed the songs because she was familiar with some of them and got excited when she heard one of her favorites - "If You're Happy and You Know It". She also loved the parachute. She sat under it and was so excited when it kept going up and down.

This was a fun way to build some social skills. Even though Lexie didn't interact with other children, she watched what they were doing. This helped her to feel comfortable to explore on her own. We know that Lexie had a good time because she was totally pooped after it was done and took a nice, long nap, which was great for mom and dad!
