Even though Lexie is in the age range for all of her developmental goals, Easter Seals has accepted her for services. We will be meeting with a nutritionist and occupational therapist to help with Lexie's feeding. She was a great eater when it was just baby food and I knew that she was getting enough veggies, fruits, and meats. Now that she's eating table foods, it hasn't been so easy.
Lexie's favorites can change from day to day. For example, she'll eat all of her carrots one day and the next day, she'll spit them out. I'm just worried that she doesn't get enough of what she needs to be healthy. Hopefully, some experts can help us with ways to prepare her food so she'll eat it or just give us ideas on what to feed her and how much she should be eating each day. Our goal is for her to gain at least 1 pound each month. If only I had that problem!!

We will also get help from a speech therapist. Lexie loves to babble, but hasn't really started talking yet. She understands what we tell her, but has a hard time telling us what she wants. Anna, our speech therapist, has given us some techniques to use. First we have to get her just to repeat gestures so that she thinks it's fun, then we can move on to try and repeat words or sounds. We've also been using food to motivate Lexie. Before we give her something she wants, she has to say the sound or word. So far, it's been working. Our goal is for Lexie to say 15 words in 3 months.

We may also get a consultation with a physical therapist. Lexie has been very clumsy lately. She does not walk, she runs and tends to trip over her feet. Just as soon as one scrape heals, she gets a bruise or cut on her head, her cheek, her knees, everywhere you can think of. Of course, when Easter Seals came by, she didn't fall once. We'll just keep an eye on her and see if there are any improvements or if it gets worse.

she does play up for guests when they come over, but that's just lexie being lexie!
